Westfield Shopping Mall of the Netherlands

A visit to the Westfield Mall of the Netherlands is a day well spent. It is the largest shopping centre in the Netherlands, not in Amsterdam but close to The Hague and easily reached by train or car. The Mall of the Netherlands is more than a shopping centre. It is a combination of shopping, entertainment and good food. This formula is unique in the Netherlands. Get here the famous smoked sausages from Hema, bargains at Action and cosmetics from het Kruidvat, most Dutch High-Street shops have a branch here. Drink bubble tea, buy a car or go to the movies. The Mall of the Netherlands has it all. High ceilings and light colours create a feeling of space and an abundance of shops make a visit to the mall a full day-outing.

Westfield Mall of the Netherlands

The Mall of the Netherlands has 250 shops, 58 restaurants and one cinema with eleven screens. You will find well-known retail chains such as Anna van Toor and Kruidvat, but also lesser-known shops like Arabian Oud (for oriental perfume), Black Bananas (for streetwear) and Bylima (designer fashion).

Largest Shopping Centre in the Netherlands

Shopping in the Mall of the Netherlands is a unique experience because nowhere else in the Netherlands will you find such a variety of shops, not even in Amsterdam.

In the Gallery there are pop-up stores of young designers and trendy brands. Fresh is an indoor fresh market with specialties from all over the world: French wines, Japanese snacks, Turkish specialties, cheeses, charcuterie, nuts, fresh fish and a huge Asian supermarket. Fresh has a scoop! The first wine drive-thru in the Netherlands: wine bar and shop Gastrovino.

The Eet Theater is what in most other malls is known as food court. The design is unique, a ceiling with contours of golden arches that imitate a stage curtain.

Facilities

The mall is large and that is why the shopping centre is divided into zones that are neatly indicated on signs. There is also an app to download, very handy when you are looking for a specific store.
There are free toilets, lockers to store large bags and also cooled lockers for purchases at Jumbo or Albert Heijn supermarkets.

The Shops of the Mall of the Netherlands

Two renowned the Hague shops Nolten shoes and bookstore Paagman, also have branches in the Mall of the Netherlands.

Kinepolis

Complete your shopping experience with a visit to Kinepolis with as many as 11 screens and over 1,600 seats. Experience the best films with razor-sharp images and even better with the MX4D where the film is experienced ‘for real’ with moving chairs, weather simulations and scent effects.

Peppa Pig World of Play

All Peppa fans will love the huge indoor playground with more than twelve different play zones. Toddlers and preschoolers enter the magical world of Peppa, George and their friends. There is also a Peppa Pig shop

Leidschenhage now Shopping Mall of the Netherlands

Situated at the current location of the Shopping Mall of the Netherlands was the Leidschenhage shopping centre. When it opened in 1971, this mall was a novelty: an open-air shopping area with car-free streets and inspired by the Lijnbaan in Rotterdam, which was a great success from its opening in 1953.

At the beginning of 2000 things started to go downhill. Leidschenhage was outdated, shops were vacant. The bankruptcy in 2015 of department store Vroom & Dreesmann was a big blow.

Still, the location had potential as it is in the middle of the Randstad, close to the A12, A13 and A4 motorways and easy to reach from Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Utrecht. In 2018, the first part of the mall openend with 24 shops. In 2021, the renewed shopping centre opened with over 200 shops and 3.000 parking lots.

Westfield International

Westfield Malls can be found in 16 states of America and in eleven countries in Europe, including the Czech Republic. When you are in Prague visit Westfield Chodov where you will find four floors with more than 250 shops, 42 restaurants and Cinema City with 18 screens and 4D experience.
