Best Pancakes Restaurants in Amsterdam
Pancakes are everybody’s favourite. Amsterdam has several pancake restaurants where you can eat pancakes with a traditional topping. Sprinkle with sugar or black treacle and bacon. The Pancake Bakery is easy to find. It is located on Prinsengracht, one of Amsterdam’s main canals, and only a few blocks away from the Anne Frank House. The building itself is a charming old warehouse, once used for storing spices and other products the East India Company traded.
Inside, the walls are adorned with vintage Dutch photos and paintings. Marble topped tables and wooden chairs make comfortable places to sit. On each table you will find a canister with thick black treacle, an essential ingredient for many Dutch pancakes.
Spekpannenkoek, Bacon Pancake
If you want to be Dutch among the Dutch, order spekpannenkoeken met stroop, bacon pancake smothered in black treacle. This sweet-savoury combination is an acquired taste. If this is not quite what you had in mind, try one of the international pancakes; the Indonesian pancake with chicken chunks doused in spicy peanut sauce, or the Canary Islands pancake with fried bananas, banana liqueur, ice-cream and whipped cream. Alternatively, treat yourself to one of the giant omelets, the three egg variety topped with ham, mushrooms, onions, bacon and cheese or indulge in one of the tantalizing sweets from the dessert menu.
